‘Elbowing’ as a new form of greeting in Ghana is not a safe method of preventing the transfer of the Corona virus (COVID-19)

‘Elbowing’ as a new form of greeting in Ghana is not a safe method of preventing the transfer of the Corona virus (COVID-19). Remember per the new protocol we can sneeze or cough into our elbows if we do not have tissue available. Moreover as we are not to touch our eye, nose, mouth or face, the tendency of us using our elbow or arm to wipe our face is high. ‘Elbowing’ defeats the social distancing strategy. ‘Elbowing’ therefore presents with higher risks especially to some individuals or groups. I am therefore appealing to all of us to desist from this practice. Let’s do the bowing with a distance of at least 1m apart as our new form of greeting instead.
